The Winter Skin Blues … or Is It the Greys?

Here in New England our skin goes through many ups and downs. Our climate takes our skin on a roller coaster of changes.  After our short summer months where we try to soak up all the sun we can (hopefully while keeping our skin protected) winter begins! Dry, cold air, heat, wind and sun (yes still that sun) damages our skin even further, The combination of summer and winter damage leaves our skin feeling and looking unhealthy. The skin then takes on a dull grey appearance.

Here are a few simple things to do to care for your skin during these changes:

Always, not only in the summer, but always wear sunscreen. It should be applied to face, neck, chest and top of your hands. Not many people realize how strong the winter sun is. Sun reflecting off snow can be as strong or in some cases stronger than summer causing the same damage. Make your sunscreen a year round habit!

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Apply a good layer of moisturizer to your skin both day and night to help create a barrier for pollutants and elements of the day. At night it promotes healing and helps keep the skin from becoming dehydrated.

Pamper yourself with a facial especially during the winter months. Facials help remove dry dead skin, clean pores, deeply hydrate and speed up the skin’s healing process. Facials can be done every six to eight weeks. They are not only great for your skin; they relax your soul!

How you care for your skin is very important in keeping you looking your very best. While there are so many choices for cleansers, moisturizers, treatments and scrubs, your best bet is to ask an esthetician for product recommendations.

At Paul Conzo’s we offer complimentary skin care consultations. Your skin is too important to leave to chance. Don’t let another winter go by. Begin the healing process now!
